The main provisions of the government decree no. 211/2020 (V.16.) on protection measures in Budapest

• Present government decree shall be applied for the territory of Budapest. The curfew introduced by the government decree no. 71/2020 (III.27.) is also terminated in Budapest.

• Social interaction shall be limited to a minimum, not including those between persons living in the same household, the persons shall keep at least 1,5-meter distance from each other including the public transportation as well.

• Everyone is required to cover his/her mouth and nose with mask, scarf or shawl while shopping in the store or using the public transportation.

• Persons over the age of 65 may only visit a grocery store, drugstore, market or pharmacy between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm, during this period only such persons or persons employed in the given place are allowed to stay in the premises.

• All shops can be open and visited by customers.

• It is allowed to stay, eat and drink in the garden patio and on the terrace of a catering shop, including in particular restaurant, coffee shop, bakery, buffet.

• It is forbidden to stay in a catering shop except for those employed there. The exception is the handover and delivery of takeaway food.

• Enforcement of these provisions is the responsibility of the person operating the premises.

• From 18 May 2020 until 1 September 2020 the catering shop shall not pay usage fee for the terrace of the catering shop operating in public places.

• Religious ceremony, civil marriage ceremony, funeral and family events after the civil marriage ceremony may take place.

• Persons participating in the religious ceremony, civil marriage ceremony – except the married parties – funeral shall keep an appropriate distance from each other.

• From 15 June 2020 family events after funeral, marriage ceremony may take place if the number of participants does not exceed the 200 person limit.

• From 15 June 2020 marriage ceremony and family event after the marriage ceremony may take place in a restaurant, or an accommodation where music service may be ensured.

• Students may visit universities according to the rector’s decision. It is prohibited to visit dormitory of the university.

A person who violates the rules specified in the decree commits an offense and can be fined up to HUF 5,000, – HUF 500,000.
