Information on the legal regulation concerning the curfew restriction

Government decree No. 71/2020 (III. 27.) on the curfew restriction

– Social interaction shall be limited to a minimum, not including those between persons living in the same household, the persons shall keep at least 1,5-meter distance from each other including the public transportation as well.

– It is forbidden to stay in a catering shop except for those employed there. The exception is the handover and delivery of takeaway food. Persons over the age of 65 may only visit a grocery store, drugstore, market or pharmacy between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm, during this period only such persons or persons employed in the given place are allowed to stay in the premises. Enforcement of these provisions is the responsibility of the person operating the premises.

– The home, the place of residence or the private residence may only be left with good reason. Such good reasons include:

  • performance of work, professional duties, economic, agricultural and forestry activities and the purchase of essential materials and equipment necessary for these in shops selling these materials and equipment,
  • escorting the minor child during day care,
  • access to health care and services, including health services beyond the curative function to preserve physical and mental health (in particular psychotherapeutic care, physiotherapy),
  • individual leisure sporting activities, leisure walking (alone or along with those living in the same household bay keeping 1,5-meter distance from each other),
  • marriage and funeral within a narrow family circle,
  • purchase at a grocery store selling daily consumer goods,
  • purchase at a drugstore,
  • purchase at a pet food retailer,
  • purchase at an agricultural shop, including shops selling fertilizers and slaughterhouses,
  • purchase in a market,
  • purchase at a pharmacy,
  • visiting a petrol station,
  • purchase in a tobacco shop,
  • use of hairdressing and manicure services,
  • use of transport, cleaning and hygiene services,
  • use of services related to the repair of motor vehicles and bicycles, agricultural and forestry machinery and equipment,
  • use of waste management services,
  • administration requiring personal appearance, including regulatory, banking, financial,
  • use of insurance and postal services,
  • care of animals, walking of pets in the public area, visiting the veterinary office and veterinary hospital,
  • parental rights and obligations,
  • religious activity.

– Enforcement of restrictive measures under the decree is monitored by the police, which may use coercive measures.

– A person who violates the restrictions set out in the decree commits an offense and can be fined up to HUF 50,000, – HUF 500,000.

– The decree shall enter into force on 28 March 2020 and expire on 11 April 2020.
